Gilnahirk Primary School has been selected to be part of a North/South project entitled DISSOLVING BOUNDARIES THROUGH TECHNOLOGY.
This project is designed to help foster partnerships between schools in the North and South of Ireland through the use of TECHNOLOGY. The project will run throughout the school year 2000-2006. If you wish to find out more about the Dissolving Boundaries Project click here
Our partner school is The North Dublin National Schools Project School (NDNSP)
Our title is 'The Living Book Project' and is based upon the novels ' Under the Hawthorn Tree' and 'The Wildflower Girl' by Marita Conlon-McKenna.
Through this project the children will empathise with children living through the Irish Potato Famine and will share their thoughts and feelings in a variety of ways when they communicate with each other via e-mail, web-crossing and Video-Conferencing.
The project will enable children to:
Develop a sense of co-operation and sharing through joint project work
Empathise with children in different situations
Reflect on their own rights and responsibilities in society
Use information technology in a meaningful context
Enjoy project work with another school as part of their usual curriculum
Disseminate project results through Internet web pages
Video Conference on a number of occasions to facilitate shared project work
Offer equal opportunities to boys and girls.
This project is co-ordinated by Mrs McClune in Gilnahirk Primary, Belfast and Jennifer O'Connell in the NDNSP, Dublin.
